Jobsession
Jobsession, sometimes referred to as Job Boredom Fever, occurs when a nurse finds herself in the wrong hospital setting for her personality and/or skill set. This particular strain of Restless Nurse Syndrome will often manifest itself in strange ways as the nurses’ brain can no longer handle the burden of the wrong nursing environment.
Nurses suffering from this have been known to apply a treatment that is often an overreaction to the patient’s symptoms, such as mistaking a simple rash for the Ebola virus, diagnosing a cough from allergies for SARS or putting a patient with a sprained wrist in a body cast. To the untrained observer this usually appears as if the nurse believes they are in an episode of ER where every case is filled with drama and excitement.
Conversely other patients suffering from the Jobsession strain of Restless Nurse Syndrome may be better suited for a slower paced hospital where they can have more autonomy and use the wide range of skills they have learned in a larger setting. A nurse with these symptoms can often, sadly be seen moving in a slow motion like state as their brain attempts to create the correct setting for the nurse. In the early stages of Jobsession some of these nurses can be easily frustrated with coworkers and may finish other nurses and doctors sentences and assignments and suffer from periodic involuntary eye rolling.
